今年韦氏词典的年度词汇候选名单中还包括nationalism（民族主义）、pansexual（泛性恋）、Epiphany（韩国流行组合防弹少年团在今年发布的新曲）、lodestar（北极星）等词汇。
韦氏 词典在官网中指出，Justice一词2018年多次出现在全美的话题中心，比如种族正义、社会正义、司法正义、经济正义等等。Justice的含义变化也有很多，覆盖技术、法律、精神和哲学等领域。（The concept of justice was at the center of many of national debates in the past year: racial justice, social justice, criminal justice, economic justice. Justice has varied meanings that do a lot of work in the language—meanings that range from the technical and legal to the lofty and philosophical.）
当然，选择怎样一个词语来反应一整年的政治和文化，各大著名词典都有各自的考量。
牛津词典选择了“toxic”（有毒的）；
字典网(dictionary.com)将“假消息（misinformation）列为2018年年度词汇；
“single-use”（一次性的）则当选柯林斯词典年度词汇。
