As warmer weather arrives, hundreds of swans that spent winter at Manas National Wetland Park in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region are ready to head north for nesting and reproduction. Researchers across China helped the local staff place bands on the swans' necks. Bird banding is a common practice for studying and identifying individual birds. Neck rings and mini satellite transmitters attached to the swans allow researchers to monitor the birds' migratory journeys.
