今天是虞美人花日（和平纪念日），英国的国殇日。这是英国画家玛丽·德拉尼（Mary Delany）1779年制作的红色虞美人花。

前博物馆版画与绘画部的负责人、诗人兼学者劳伦斯-宾雍（Laurence Binyon）写过 一首《纪念颂 》，这首诗的一部分被刻在战争纪念碑上：

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.”

"他们不会变老，不像余下的我们这般。
他们不再为年华而蹉跎，逃开了岁月的诅咒。
我们将记住他们，不论是落日还是清晨。“

博物馆将在今天11点进行两分钟的默哀，并在本周日再次默哀。
