The ghost clock works as a wall clock or a kinetic piece, giving a sense of floating time to the users.

Unlike most timepieces, the ‘ghost clock’ does not indicate the specific time by pointing the hands, but instead uses light to create shadows that double as the clock markers. When placed on a flat surface, the tip of the cone faces upwards with the moving arm working as a kinetic object that catches your attention and mesmerises with its smooth movement. “Just as idea of time exists everywhere, ghosts are floating around is; walls, ceilings, floors, shelves - everywhere. We design a way to feel time, not just a clock that counts a day” says the DIA award-winning studio, studio_west.

Established in 2015 by the China Academy of Art, the Design Intelligence Award (DIA) is more than just an award that recognises good design. It’s an ecosystem for cultivating innovation and entrepreneurial spirit. For almost a decade, this free-to-enter program has celebrated creativity and ingenuity, with a three-stage judging and evaluation process aimed at developing products that uniquely benefit humanity. The DIA Award also seeks to create a platform for accelerating international trade, increasing connectivity, and opening up commercial opportunities that help propel the Global East in the West-heavy Design Industry. The awards program has created a prize fund of ¥5 million RMB, equivalent to $728,000 USD, to support the development of exceptional ideas into exceptional designs. This initiative aims to incubate and nurture innovative concepts that have the potential to make a significant difference in the world of design.
