Gilded silver bust thought to depict Cleopatra Selene, daughter of Cleopatra and Mark Antony, sculpted from a single sheet of silver. The young woman wears an elephant headdress evoking coin portraits of Alexander, while her gown is embellished with a scorpion, cobra, lions, fruit and wheat - all symbols connected with the provinces of North Africa. After the suicide of her parents, Cleopatra Selene was brought to Rome and placed in the care of Octavian's sister, Octavia the Younger, a former wife of her father. She would later be married to the Roman client-king Juba II, and together they would rule the kingdom of Mauretania which covered the northern expanses of present day Algeria and Morocco. Late 1st century BC. http://t.cn/A60VC3bX
