Oceans are the home of marine life and humans. A sub-forum themed "Ocean and Biodiversity" at the Asia Philanthropy Forum focusing on practices of marine biodiversity conservation was held in late November in Haikou, south China's Hainan Province.

According to the World Animal Protection, 640,000 tonnes of "ghost gear," or discarded nets and fishing gear, injure or kill around 136,000 marine lives every year.

Sun Quanhui, a scientist from the World Animal Protection, shared experiences of marine life conservation projects such as "Global Ghost Gear Initiative" and "Whale Heritage Site program."
