With heights of 48 meters and 45 meters respectively, they are the tallest pair of stone pagodas in China. They were originally built in the 9th and 10th centuries as wooden structures, but were reconstructed from stone in the 13th century, during the Song Dynasty (960-1279). These pagodas are not only symbols of Quanzhou's former maritime prosperity, but also unique landmarks of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
