Tim Nicholls, minister for Health and Ambulance Services in Queensland told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that 323 samples went missing from a Virology Laboratory in Queensland in 2021 in a "major breach" of biosecurity protocol. These samples include Hendra virus, lyssavirus and hantavirus, which appear to have gone missing after the storage freezer broke down. The breach was revealed in August, 2023 and the lab has been unable to say whether the materials were removed or destroyed.
