因为人品问题不是很想吹他的音乐成就，但这位确实是当之无愧的摇滚之父，在五十年代结合乡村音乐和布鲁斯，加上吉他riff和标志性表演奠定了摇滚风格的基础（是的因为摇滚和很多其他艺术形式一样都是白人从黑人那里偷来的），是无法代替的“旅程的开始”，同时质朴的，以底层青少年视角出发的歌词也很贴合愚者这张牌。(至于人品问题更是炼铜漏税持枪抢劫一个不少，很好 地奠定了摇滚老登都犯法的基操）
愚者一开始的人选是涤纶，因为他是American Pie里的jester，之后考虑了艺妓婆婆，因为他很傻。最后还是从历史事实的角度把摇滚的起始还原给了黑人艺术家。如果我要画一套八九十年代的摇滚塔罗的话，愚者纠结的应该就是选利亚姆还是戴阿邦了….这张画的时候因为背景太空了纠结了很久，加了星星还是觉得怪怪的，最后灵光一闪偷师梵高一秒，因为后面高塔牌也用了神奈川冲浪里，恋人用了赤富士，变成致敬名画的暗线了…（？
1977年发往宇宙的旅行者1号镀金唱片里，Johnny B. Goode 是唯一一首摇滚歌曲，也就是说，将会是外星人听到的第一首地球摇滚。
Despite his controversies and crimes, Chuck was no doubt the figure that laid down foundations of Rock and Roll. Nicknamed “Father of Rock and Roll”, He combined elements of blues and country music and added iconic guitar riffs, shaping the distinct sound of rock and roll as we know it today. His rise to fame was the irreplaceable beginning of rock and roll’s journey. Additionally, his lyrics based on teenage life also capture The Fool’s essence of purity and freedom. However, Chuck had his fair share of moral issues, including armed robbery, assault ,transporting a 14-year-old girl across state lines for immoral purposes, laying down another type of foundation on the aspect of law-breaking for rock stars in the decades to come.
Initially I thought about painting Bob Dylan for this card (as he is often interpreted to be the jester from American Pie), then I thought about Iggy Pop for a while because there’s somewhat of a mindless vibe to his animalistic stage presence. Eventually I decided to go for someone with more historical significance for the opening card that implies the beginning of a journey. I tried to limit musicians in the Tarot to those active from the 50s to the 70s, but if the timeline expanded to the 80s and 90s I probably would have considered Liam Gallagher or Damon Albarn. I was frustrated by the emptiness of the background for a while, then took inspiration from Van Gogh’s Starry Sky to add a hint of dreamy atmosphere to the composition.
In 1977, a recording of Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode” was included on a golden disc sent to space with the Voyager mission, which means it would be the first rock song for potential aliens to hear.
