Wow.
This is a prime example of a “highly-rated” book that in truth (and in my eyes at least) is downright bad.
The writing is meandering, immature,
And feels like something you would see in a college creative writing class.
It’s a hot mess of history and personal tales,
And toward the end,
It felt like the author wrote the book, at least in part, to justify her own sexuality.
But all that aside,
Eugenics.
Boy, they never taught us this part of the history in school, and it was definitely not in the textbooks.
So if this book is worth nothing else, it at least shone light on something I’d never even heard of.
And that, I believe, is the whole point of reading.
