Jan Gossart, called Mabuse (Flanders ca. 1478‑1532). After, 16th century. Hercules wrestling with Antaeus. Bears signature and date lower right JOANNES.MALBODIVS.PINXIT 1523. Oil on panel, 46.5 x 37.5 cm.

The present painting probably follows the composition of a lost painting by Jan Gossart, which was larger in size and painted in distemper on canvas. Formerly in the collection of Archduke Leopold Wilhelm and mentioned in his inventory of 1696 in Vienna.

With inscription on the reverse: ”Gion Malbodio Na 1499 M: 1562”.
