Sai Weng Lost His Horse (塞翁失马, sài wēng shī mǎ): An old man loses his horse, his neighbors call it bad luck, but then it returns with more horses. When his son breaks his leg while riding one of the new horses, neighbors call it bad luck again, but it later turns out to be good fortune because the son is exempted from a war draft due to his injury.

Good and bad events are unpredictable, and what seems like a misfortune might turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
