Hundreds of Porsche owners across Russia have reported that their vehicles have suddenly become immobilised, unable to start or operate normally, sparking frustration and confusion nationwide.

According to owners and local media, the problem began appearing simultaneously in multiple regions. Drivers found their cars displayed system errors, disabled electronic functions, or complete lockouts. In many cases, vehicles were rendered unusable without any prior warning.

The issue is believed to be linked to Porsche’s software systems and connectivity services, which rely on updates, servers, and remote authorisation functions based outside Russia. Since Western sanctions and Porsche’s official withdrawal from the Russian market, access to official software updates, diagnostics, and support infrastructure has been limited or entirely cut off.

While Porsche has not issued an official statement specifically addressing the immobilisations, automotive experts suggest the cars’ advanced digital systems may fail or restrict operation when regular server communication, security certificates, or licensing renewals are interrupted.

Russian dealerships that previously sold Porsche vehicles have largely shut down or operate without official manufacturer backing, leaving owners with few options. Independent mechanics report they are unable to override certain locked systems without proprietary software, forcing some drivers to tow expensive vehicles that are mechanically sound but digitally disabled.

The incident highlights the growing risks faced by owners of high-tech foreign vehicles in Russia, where modern cars increasingly depend on cloud-based services and manufacturer control. It also raises broader questions about digital ownership and whether consumers truly “own” vehicles that can be remotely limited long after purchase.

For now, affected Porsche owners remain stuck — with luxury cars that look pristine, but won’t move. http://t.cn/AXyOtNGO
