Rapid eating has been linked to reduced or delayed release of key appetite-regulating hormones such as peptide YY (PYY) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which signal fullness to the brain.
This altered hormonal response may interfere with hypothalamic pathways responsible for appetite control, increasing the risk of overeating. Shortened chewing time and brief meal duration can further weaken gut–brain communication, particularly through neural signaling routes involved in digestion. Collectively, these findings suggest that slowing down during meals supports more effective satiety signaling and healthier energy regulation.
