In July 2025, SpaceX invested approximately $2 billion in xAI as part of xAI's $5 billion equity funding round.

SpaceX uses customized, private versions of xAI's large language models (LLMs) internally. Several unreleased or fine-tuned Grok models, specifically on SpaceX data.

SpaceX also integrates Grok publicly for Starlink customer support on its website.

Today we learned that this month, January 2026, Tesla agreed to invest $2 billion to acquire shares of xAI's Series E Preferred Stock in xAI's recent financing round. Both companies entered a framework agreement to evaluate potential AI collaborations for physical-world AI.

Tesla has already integrated Grok AI companion into its vehicles. Grok serves as a hands-free AI assistant. It supports natural language interactions, provides real-time information, handles navigation commands, adds or edits destinations, and offers features like different voices and personalities.

On the flip side, Tesla sells Megapacks to xAI for the Colossus datacenters.

And this is all just the beginning...
