I'm quite surprised that people are so upset by 古萱’s latest interviews.

First of all, neither of them—at least in my eyes—is a reliable narrator regarding the nature of their relationship. Sounds paradoxical, I know. But if you've followed them for long, you know that what they say often differs vastly from their actions. He is a closed book when it comes to emotions. As for her, while she has many qualities I admire, she is not the most emotionally sophisticated person I know. Here, we have two people who have not been communicating effectively. Things probably would have been different if they had the courage to sit down, and have an open and honest conversation about how they really feel.

But all that aside, I'm actually on their side this time. I'm a firm believer that true love—romantic or otherwise—should be unconditional. If you truly love someone, then you should keep the door wide open and allow that person the freedom to walk away at any time. For how can it be true love if you must selfishly bind that person to yourself?

So as much as I say I would love for 古萱 to be together, if they did cross that final threshold, I would probably (at least at this moment) find it a bit anticlimactic. Their story is incredible precisely because it defies all odds and expectations. By crossing that final threshold so predictably, they would descend, at least for me, from a true legend to just another love story.

古萱 are not lovers; they are soulmates. I happen to have someone like that in my life, too. We feel completely safe in each other's presence; we understand each other without speaking; we finish each other's sentences; and we probably tell each other more than what we share with our respective partners. And it’s true—in my eyes, he is neither male nor female. He is just a being, a soul I love.

古萱 are currently being pestered with the question of "Why aren't you two together?" because the rest of the world can see just how much they love and care for each other. This isn't a case where the world is collectively "seeing things." In fact, I think it's the opposite. Regardless, the truth is that they do love each other, deeply, but just not in the most traditional way. And whether or not they are “together,” he is providing her a world where she can shine and continue to pursue her dreams, while her friendship provides him a haven where he can feel safe to laugh, be silly, and be human again.

What more can one ask for?

If their story ended right now and right here, I would be content. Because the 古萱story is absolutely amazing, and as a fan, it's been an incredibly fun ride.

But the fact that the story is still continuing, and is still FULL of possibilities... isn't that all very exciting and worth celebrating instead?
