National Guard troops deployed to the French Quarter for Carnival season safety left behind a serious lapse in security Sunday night (Feb. 😎, when an armed soldier abandoned a military rifle in a Bourbon Street hotel bathroom. The weapon was reportedly propped against a sink while the soldier used the restroom.

Photos of the assault-style rifle quickly circulated on social media, prompting confirmation from the Louisiana National Guard. Lt. Col. Noel Collins said the weapon was recovered and returned, and that the incident is being handled internally. The Guard did not identify the soldier or disclose potential disciplinary action.

The incident comes just 13 months after a terror attack on Bourbon Street, where an ISIS-inspired attacker killed 14 people and injured dozens by driving a truck into a crowd.
