Shortly after the U.S. Men's Hockey Team won Olympic gold, a video surfaced of a locker room call with President Trump joking about "having" to invite the Women's Team.
The U.S. Women's Hockey Team has medaled in every Olympics so far, and this year won their third gold-a feat it took the men's team 46 years to achieve. Laughing at or belittling the accomplishments of your women peers— especially when they match or surpass yours-is peak toxic masculinity.
Normalizing this behavior instead of speaking up perpetuates a culture where women and girls don't feel valued or protected.
It's time to retire "boys will be boys." Men should know better. Women deserve better.
