Longquan kiln double fish pattern dish or wash
The Longquan kiln produced dishes or washes featuring a double fish pattern, typically with two lifelike fish facing each other molded on the inner bottom. In Chinese, the homophone for “fish” and “surplus” symbolizes abundance. This celadon-glazed wash from the Yuan dynasty features a double fish motif and a raised chrysanthemum petal design on the outer wall, crafted at the Longquan kiln. Additionally, since Guangzhou was a key foreign trade port in ancient China, we showcased the Yuan Dynasty Double Fish Dish found in archaeological digs in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, which likely was exported through this port.
