Comet C/2026 A1 (MAPS) update: uh oh! There have been signs of trouble for some time now and this looks quite grim. At this point the optimistic scenario is now a headless comet after perihelion. But the kind of erratic brightness behaviour that comet MAPS is displaying now is nearly always a sign of imminent demise (disintegration) of the comet. Plot: Nicolas Lefaudeux.
