Pandemic Year #1, 2020, An Evil Mindset Spread in Academic Medicine

It was a contagious corruption of character characterized by a sudden, collective absence of empathy and a delight in the misfortune of others. It presents as a "falling" or creeping shadow that fuels manipulation, narcissism, and a calculated disregard for human dignity. It became a nightmare for courageous doctors and nurses trying to help severely ill seniors with acute COVID-19 illness at home.
