疫情期间，翟宇辉坐飞机回北方的老家，在飞机上俯瞰北方老家的上空，全是蓝色的彩钢瓦，彩钢瓦的使用率超过了半数以上，这种材料廉价便宜且能迅速实现具体居住的需求（放风防雨防虫）。从某种程度上来说，翟宇辉认为这种材料具有当下中国普遍意义上时代感觉。翟宇辉看到这种彩钢瓦房子给劳动人民带来的温暖、脆弱和必需感，对于收入受限的北方农村，翟宇辉理解了彩钢瓦这种材料，并用彩钢瓦进行创作。这件体现出来一种大家围坐一团的照顾、温暖和最后注定要破碎的宿命感。
During the pandemic, Zhai Yuhui returned to his northern hometown by plane. Looking down from above, he saw that rooftops were overwhelmingly covered with blue corrugated steel sheets—used in well over half of the structures. Affordable and readily available, this material quickly meets basic needs of shelter, offering protection from wind, rain, and pests. In this sense, Zhai understands corrugated steel as carrying a distinctly contemporary resonance within the broader context of China. What he perceived in these structures was a sense of warmth, fragility, and necessity for working people. For rural communities in northern China with limited income, corrugated steel becomes both a practical solution and a condition of living. Through his work, Zhai adopts this material as both medium and subject. The resulting work evokes a collective intimacy—figures gathered closely together in mutual care and warmth—while also suggesting an underlying sense of precarity, as if such togetherness were always on the verge of breaking apart.
