Core Responsibilities
Schematic to Layout: Translate logical circuit designs (schematics) into physical board layouts.
Component Placement: Strategically place components for optimal performance, space, and thermal dissipation.
Routing: Design the copper traces (connections) between components, considering signal integrity (SI), power integrity (PI), and EMI/EMC.
Stackup Design: Define the layers of the PCB and their materials for specific electrical properties.
Library Management: Create and maintain logical symbols and physical footprints (land patterns) for components.
Design Rules: Implement design constraints (DRC) for fabrication and assembly.
Documentation: Generate detailed Gerber files and manufacturing drawings.
Key Skills & Knowledge
Software: Expertise in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, Mentor Graphics PADS).
