“You’re bound to see a glossy pink lip or a ’90s inspired lip combo with dark liner on a magazine cover—but polka-dot pouts may be a first,” says Alexandra French (@alexandraafrench), the makeup artist behind Katseye’s Allure cover looks. French says she and photographer Charlotte Rutherford (@charlie__chops) collaborated on the concept, drawing from the vintage-inspired clothes selected for the shoot. “Vintage makeup is really having such a comeback,” says French. As soon as the concept was solidified, French began thinking of different ways to translate the polka dot print on the cover stars’ outfits into a makeup look for both lips and eyes. “I had polka dot lip tattoos made by a friend of mine. I tried out painting on individual dots,” French says. “For timing reasons, we ended up using confetti pieces” that she found deep in her makeup kit.
