What makes you qualified to have a discussion, to be a voice where men are talking about this?
The same thing that makes you the most qualified to have a conversation about whiteness: that you, as a Black man, understand whiteness far more than I do. And it's not to say that it's your labor or your work, but you actually can teach us way more about it because you have had to deal with it every single day.
When you're in the oppressed group, you know everything about things they don't even know about themselves. You can tell what they're going to do, what they're going to say. You're anticipating danger. It's the reason you can't sit with your back to the door, because you're anticipating danger.
As a woman, you can't walk home without looking over your shoulder, or without having something in your hand—like a pair of keys—knowing you're ready to call for help if something happens. It's the same thing at work for women; we're constantly anticipating that too. And that's why we know everything about you.
