The blindness: when you trade, you’re not trading against “the market” as an abstract entity. You’re trading against a specific participant—a human being, or more likely an algorithm, with specific information, specific constraints, specific motivations. If that participant has better information, faster access, different constraints, or has already positioned before you noticed an opportunity, your trade isn’t an intelligent bet against inefficiency.
It is a transfer payment from you to them.
