When Xiaoshu, or "Little Tree," a 600-gram red kangaroo joey less than five months old, fell from her mother's pouch last October, keepers at Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo tried several times to reunite her with her mother – but without success. Realizing the mother could no longer care for her, they began months of hand-rearing – sewing an artificial pouch, feeding her around the clock and later recreating a natural environment to help her build strength. Now weighing over 8 kilograms, Xiaoshu has become part of the kangaroo family. Her story reflects a philosophy that runs through Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo: wildlife rescue is not simply about saving an animal's life, but allowing them to behave as they naturally would. http://t.cn/AX9kBnZR
