LOH: How do you approach the fusion of traditional Chinese elements and modern music in your work?
ZZH: It's actually not that complicated. For me, traditional-style music mostly serves the storytelling. I've done quite a lot of period dramas, and I genuinely enjoy that aesthetic. So when the opportunity came to create music in that style, it just felt very natural. However, expressing something through drama and through an album are two different things. I just happened to find a way to bring the two together.
LOH: From your training at the Shanghai Theatre Academy to now, how has your understanding of craft and creation evolved?
ZZH: It's always evolving. What our teachers gave us was a sense of artistic lineage and, more importantly, a deep respect for the craft. It's not just a way to make money; it's something you commit yourself to.
I hope the characters and stories I create can truly resonate, allowing audiences to release emotions and see reflections of human nature. Those four years in school were really about planting a seed. How it grows and what it becomes comes later.
