The Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra outlines the four powers of repentance that purify karmic obstructions: the power of eradication that uproots active unwholesome tendencies; the power of counteraction that remedies such tendencies; the power of restraint that prevents future wrongdoing; and the power of reliance gained through taking refuge in the Three Jewels.
