Two mandatory national standards for China’s new energy vehicle sector are set to take effect on July 1. The new standards set an uncompromising minimum requirement for battery safety. Even if a single cell suffers an internal short circuit, the entire battery pack must not catch fire or explode, and the smoke generated must not endanger passengers. The new regulations also require all vehicles to install a physical one-click power cut-off mechanism to enable rescue operations in case of a crash.
