Along the journey of life, we always go through countless people and events. Non-attachment is the practice we need to cultivate at every moment. All the sufferings in the world, at their root, mostly stem from clinging obsessions. We might as well treat every present moment as if it were the last in our lives. It could be the warm cup of water at hand, the ordinary meal on the table, or this very encounter with the person before you. Living with such a mindset, we will approach people and matters with more compassion and appreciation, and be less entangled in worldly concerns. When you no longer cling to permanence, nor dwell on gains and losses, those worries and sufferings that once tightly bound you will gradually loosen their hold. When the mind rests peacefully in the present, ease and freedom are right there within.——Respected Teacher Jia Cuo
